Scale: 1:76 | Gauge: 9mm | 009

Langley Prince 009 locomotive.

Early 009 white metal kit of the George England designed narrow gauge locomotive Prince, though could be built as Princess. The kit is of the later cab, saddle tank and tender build. Being white metal the kit is a little fiddly to build but a lot easier then the Langley Double Fairlie but a great locomotive to have alongside on the roster. The results are a great little engine of Wales.

White metal adds a good amount of weight to the body giving good traction and pulling ability. A fair bit of cleaning up of the whitemetal is usually needed and the detail is not as crisp as an etched brass kit but worth the time preparing it.

Chassis

Designed for either the Ibertren Cuckoo or Fleishman 0-4-0 chassis. Both of which are out of production and difficult to get hold of. N-Drive Productions' 16mm W/B 0-4-0 chassis. All will need alterations to ge a chassis to fit the body.

Detailing

There are numerous images available of the England Engines on the Ffestiniog Railway so detailing them to the level required should not be too difficult.

Ready to Run alternative

Peco now manufacture and sell a ready to run 009 Prince that is far superior to the Langley kit. It is a quite a lot more expensive but well worth the extra cost for the high quality detail and the running capabilities of the Kato chassis that has been created for this model.

Langley Festiniog Prince 0-4-0 saddle tank review conclusion

Great starter kit for getting in to white metal kit building.
