Bachmann released the second of their iconic quarry Hunslet narrow gauge models at the end of 2022 and included cabbed and cabless variants of the locomotives. This review is of the first cabless locomotive released, 'Nesta'.
Nesta has been built to the same high standard as the cabbed variant, Britomart, and is a very good model. The model is finished in black lined with Penrhyn Quarry mid blue and red and includes name and maker plates, railings and fixtures. Most impressive is the control features as this is a cabless locomotive you can see the controls and the firebox in all their glory. The model is DCC ready and has a 6 pin socket in the cab.
Nesta was built in 1899 by Hunslet (works number 704) for the Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales.
The locomotive was sold by Penrhyn Quarries in the 1960's, being exported to the USA but was found in a poor condition in a museum in Puerto Rico. Nesta and sister locomotive Cegin were rescued and returned to the UK in 2016.
These really are a delightful locomotive and are very popular with modellers.
There have been a few kits of the Quarry Hunslet's available in the past but a lack of suitable and readily available small chassis has always meant that only very dedicated modellers have built them.
Bachmann Quarry Hunslet Nesta: A Remarkable 0-4-0 Tank Locomotive review conclusion
