Bachmann Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0 Tank locomotive Britomart
A review of Britomart the Bachmann Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0 Tank locomotive
Published on Jul 19, 2023.
Scale: 1:76 | Gauge: 9mm | OO9 | Ready To Run

Bachmann released the first, and much anticipated, iconic quarry Hunslet narrow gauge models at the end of 2022 and included cabbed and cabless variants of the locomotives. This review is of the first cabbed locomotive released, 'Britomart'.
Britomart is in a mid blue with a white lining on a black background and includes name and maker plates, railings and fixtures.
The locomotive originally worked in the Pen-yr-Orsedd Quarry in Wales and is now in preservation at the Bala Lake Railway. Pen-yr-Orsedd was one of the major slate producers of the Nantlle Valley, supplying over 10,000 tons of product in 1864. It was also the last quarry in the vale that commercially produced slate, closing in 1979.
Additionally a tool box, coal shovel, fire iron and lamps are provided in the box to be fitted by the modeller as and where they would like so there is an amount of variation available.
These really are a delightful locomotive and are very popular with modellers. There have been a few kits of the Quarry Hunslet's available in the past but a lack of suitable and readily available small chassis has always meant that only very dedicated modellers have built them.
Also available is Nesta, the cabless variant of the locomotive class.
Bachmann Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0 Tank locomotive Britomart review conclusion
A very good model of a quarry Hunslet 0-4-0 tank locomotive and will be very popular with modellers.
