A review of the Nonneminstre Models Fowler Resilient 4WDM

Review of Fowler Resilient locomotive Pendon in 009.

Nonneminstre Model's only 009 locomotive kit is of the narrow gauge Fowler Resilient locomotive named Pendon that is based at the Amberley Museum in Sussex.

This is a reasonably old whitemetal kit that lacks a little bit of detail of more modern kits. It is possible to glue or solder the kit together if you are skilled enough with white metal soldering.

The roof can be difficult to align but the design method chosen to section the roof allows the sides to retain the curves to the roof. This is a feature that makes this locomotive so distinctive.

No cab detail is provided but this could be added by the builder and adding a crew helps.

Chassis

The kit was designed to fit the Farish HTC chassis - readily available at the time but long since discontinued. An alternative chassis suggested in the instruction is also no longer available either so you will have to pick one up second hand or find something else suitable - which should not be too big an issue as with outside frames you really do not see anything of the chassis and most of the wheels.

Nonneminstre Models Fowler Resilient 4WDM review conclusion

This is quite an old kit and when first released none of the modern materials such as 3D printing were available. In it's day this would have had a rating of 5 but now it is a little dated and the chassis is no longer available - though a good modeller should be able to find an alternative. It is a nice model and if you can find a chassis it really is worth building.
